Assignment for Thursday Night - Due Friday

There are numerous photo sites on the internet. Examining photographs that you really like will help you take better pictures as we study how specific types of photos have been taken, so we can use these techniques to compose our own photographs.

Tonight, go to
http://www.flickr.com/
Find five different types of pictures that you really liked.
For each photo, in a new email, copy the url for the photo, and write one sentence about what you like for each picture.

Also, in the same email, do some research on your camera at this site:
http://www.dpreview.com/

In the email for this site, include the actual url for your camera's review page

Email tonight to erodgers@hall-school.org

Get a card reader or find your camera usb cable...

Please confirm with me, for one point, that you have a card reader slot on your computer, an actual plugin usb card reader, or a usb camera cable that allows you to upload pictures to your home computer. This is absolutely essential to turn in assignments in Google Docs.

Also, I suggest that you create a folder on your computer and save your photos in this folder, with a new folder for each assignment so that you always have your photos on your computer.

I urge you to delete pictures that are not needed for the minimum required number of pictures for each assignment and save only those pictures that satisfy the assignment -or- are truly awesome pictures that you personally want to save for yourself. The best time to delete pictures is at the end of taking pictures each time you take pictures, so that you do not fill your life with a future of massive collections of pictures that become so unwieldy that you will never sort through, or get rid of the unwanted pics, later in life. (I speak from experience here, folks. I have several hard drives full of 2 to 8 gig card downloads after years of having digital cameras).

Send me an email, when you get a card reader or the camera cable and have successfully created a photo folder for your own photos on your computer.

Grades are posted for the first week's activities

It is important that you check your grade to make sure that you are current with all class activities and assignments that should be posted in Google Docs - or - emailed to erodgers@hall-school.org.

Many students have sent the appropriate emails, or posted your pics in Google Docs as follows:
1. Email erodgers@hall-school.org with your school gmail address - 1 point
2. Create a PJ5 First Last collection and make erodgers@hall-school.org an email collaborator under the share dialog box.
3. Uploaded 6 of your best and different type of Happy Sad, Light Shadow pics to a new collection in your PJ5 collection called Happy Sad 030612
4. Sent me an email, that we used computers in class to create on Thursday, 030812 - five favorite (and different) flickr.com pictures and a link from dpreview.com about your camera's model.
5. Took 10 notes about the Ansel Adams documentary shown on Friday, 030912.

If you have not completed any of the following, and were in class, please do so, so I can change your grade to the grade you deserve.

If you are having computer issues at home please let me know. I suggest that you do as much as the computer work at school in the library when it is convenient if you are having computer issues at home.
